They'll tell ya it's for figuring out what what's needed for the future, i.e. healthcare. But there's a much more effective way. Take a look in Temple street hospital any day of the week and see sick kids sitting around for hours waiting to be seen, (and hours more before being treated,) And as for unemployment, isn't that what the "live register" is for? A list you sign once a month is a far more accurate reflection of the unemployment rate than a five-yearly survey!

@seanodor Here, here! What the hell is this about. Why are we surrendering our information to a US Arms / Defence corporation being investigated for torture tactics in the in Abu Grahib. Also, surely the persons or body in charge of awarding the €6m contract for our census would have known that the information collected by this agency can now, under the Patriot Act in the US, be read by both the CIA and the FBI. Its a crime!!
