Auch in Sachen Werbung leistet Toyota Pionierarbeit: Seit 29. Juni wird erstmals in Deutschland die Musikerkennungs-App Shazam dazu eingesetzt, weiterführende Informationen aus einem TV-Spot zu liefern. Hat man die Anwendung Shazam auf seinem Smartphone installiert und während des Spots aktiviert, empfängt diese App per Handy-Mikrofon Audiobruchstücke und vergleicht sie mit einer Datenbank.
Anschließend erhält der Nutzer Informationen zum gesuchten Audio-Ausschnitt. In diesem Fall erkennt die App die Werbung für den Toyota Yaris mit Hybridantrieb und präsentiert dem Nutzer alle relevanten, mobilverfügbare Informationen zum Toyota Hybrid Sommer http://www.hybridsommer.de/
