Immigrant March For Civil Rights

Shot by filmmaker Jeff Man on Sept. 2nd, 2007, this video captures some of the public reactions to what is known as the "Immigration Resolution" passed by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors on July 10th. The resolution required PWC police offers to ask for proof of citizenship when they have "probable cause" to suspect a person is undocumented. It also denied certain public services to undocumented residents, like drug rehabilitation and care for the elderly.

After civil rights and racial profiling concerns were voiced by the police department, members of the government, and Prince William County citizens, the Immigration Resolution was amended on April 29, 2008, so that immigration status checks take place only AFTER ARREST, and all persons who are arrested are checked, regardless of race, language proficiency, etc.

I don't believe that support for immigrant causes go down when they gather in large numbers. The fact that this issue is "in our own backyards" makes me want to get more involve and active because I am more likely to be able to make a difference on a local level, in local policy decisions rather than in national politics.

im not taking sides here. i dont know much about the situation, but i get the impression that one of the things that they're fighting for is the right for illegal immigrants to stay. if that is so then i think they're wrong. theres reasons why theres processes for immigrating and ppl should pay attention to those laws. if the ppl there are discriminating against ppl cuz of their race then THEY'RE wrong.

In November 2010, the unemployment rate was 9.8% with 15.1 million unemployed. (15.1 million/9.8%) = 154 million are able to work in the workforce. 11,941,812 (or 11.9 million) skilled jobs provided to illegal immigrants. GOOGLE “illegal immigration counters”, the 15.1 million unemployed could take the 11.9 million available jobs. The unemployment rate could be reduced to 2.1% {{15.1-11.9)/154}
