Public Schools and Libraries: The Failure of Socialism

I have no doubt that some parents manage to educate their children from home far better than their local schools could. The variation of public education quality is huge due to USA's very regressive tax code that keeps municipal taxes self-contained, almost guaranteeing the development of slum neighbourhoods.
Look at what conservatism has brought America... Reagonomics, supply-side theory, its been a failure. There is much greater stability with Keynesianism - flawed as it may be.

as for the schools i'm far more sympathetic to that idea with two major reservations. One, all minors have the right to an education and therefore should be given an education stipend equal to the estimated cost of their schooling for the year. Two, the state should provide an institution that will promise to except all students for nothing more than the agreed upon stipend.

wait, you think that you shouldn't have to pay extra for not returning books on time. You do realize that EVERY single rental service is going to charge you for keeping something longer than you agreed to, as they should because you are depriving them of their resources.

Corruption exists within state-controlled institutions of course, but the huge advantage of free services is never granted by private enterprises, while state-owned institutions offer it!

The lack of state-owned education means no education at all for more than 50% of the children, since parents couldn't afford private schools... In the 19th century you had to pay for schooling and the world was bursting with illiteracy, and measures like socialist nationalizations of the system (as the one of the Bolshevik revolution in 1917) brought much more education and were proven better systems than capitalist schooling, which denied the people even the right of absorbing knowledge...

.... that allowed for Finance to recklessly expand credit.
A great documentary on the beginnings of these sorry events in the late 1980s with so-called "junk bonds" is the third episode of Adam Curtis' excellent Mayfair Set series.
You can find it on youtube by searching: EP3 #1-Mayfair Set.mp4

The Keynesianism I am referring to is what he called "the socialization of credit" –– democratic governments should create and regulate the quantity of credit-money in the economy to avoid inflation or deflation. Giving Finance the power to create credit through unregulated "shadow banking" and so-called 'near-monies' is what leads to the inflation of assets (see housing bubble) and deflation of the real economy – less purchasing power as income is tied up in FIRE (parasites)
-
Reagan cut taxes and expanded government spending –– spending more money into the real economy. The phrase "Reagonomics" refers to that administrations slashing of the New Deal banking reforms (primarily Glass-Steagall Act) that allowed Finance (aka rentiers, or parasites – see Michael Hudson) which is what allowed for the reckless (i.e., uncontrolled) "expansion of credit" of the past 30 years in the form of securities, collateralized debt obligations and the rest of it.

@fringeelements lol Reagan was a retard. He was totally against the free market! I think you should unblock me because we agree on so much.

Reagan expanded gov't. There is no 10-year period since 1930 that gov't shrank. Keynesianism is what is being pursued now. Free market USA is a fairy tale.
When the fed talks about the multiplier and the beneficial nature of expanding credit, that's keynesian mysticism. Reagan's "free market" was talk. Tax rates shrank, but that doesn't matter if spending is kept up because the tax will then just manifest in inflation. In effect, both taxes and spending were increased under Reagan.

@Denverlibertarion amen, patriot! the government caused columbine! if columbine were run as a for-profit firm, then the capitalist would realize that psychopathic students would hurt business. socialism caused the columbine shooting plain and simple.
