Germany and Spain fighting for the European Football Championship Trophy Sunday June 29

At 8:45 in the evening on Sunday June 29, Austria's capital city Vienna will be the site of much excitement when Germany and Spain battle for European supremacy in the Ernst Happel Stadion.

Spain unlike Germany will enter the evening's game with a 100% win record from the group stages of the competition through to the knockout stages and will enter the game as favorites to be European champions. With of the youngest soccer stars on the planet in their camp, the Spanish are set to begin the Spanish soccer inquisition in Europe.

Even though the Spanish are featuring in their first final in fifty five years; they are not to be taken slightly, with the likes of Arsenal's midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas, Barcelona's midfield duo Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernández, Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos, Valencia's David Villa who incidentally is Euro 2008 leading goal scorer with four goals and Liverpool's El Nino Fernando Torres. These players represent a generation of youth that have changed the soccer world's perception of Spain as underachievers.

The Spanish also have Coach Luis Aragones and much like every other coach in the Euros, Aragones has been the subject of scrutiny; from his tactics to his player selection. But Aragones has undoubtedly made a huge difference in the Spanish team's performance and this is evident in Spain's appearance in the Euro 2008 final.

The Germans on the other hand have been beaten by Croatia in the group stages and it took a thunderous free kick from the Chelsea midfielder and German captain Michael Ballack against co-host Austria to guarantee progression to the knockout stages of Euro 2008. But the Germans have shown that they deserve to be here with a fantastic performance against favorites Portugal to eliminate them from the Euros.

Germany also possess some bright young stars in Bayern Munich's triple threat players in Bastian Schweinsteiger whose in scintillating form, the ever aerially present Miroslav Klose and the skillful Polish born Lukas Podolski. Inspirational captain Michael Ballack will be hoping he can display the form he has showed so far in the final to win the elusive major championship.

Ballack missed the 2002 world cup final against Brazil after helping Germany to the final with a goal against Korea in the semis, he was suspended when received a second yellow of the knockout stage. He also lost the Champions league final in 2002 with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and his most recent disappointment coming in the Champions league final 2008 with his current club Chelsea. Is this the long awaited title for the German captain who many think is the player of Euro 2008?

German coach Joachim Low who took on the job following Jürgen Klinsmann's decision not to renew his contract has the opportunity to stamp his name in German soccer history and will no doubt field his very best team in the final on Sunday.

So with a new European champion being crowned on Sunday, the world of soccer awaits with enthusiasm and anticipation to see who it will be. Italian referee Roberto Rosetti will be in charge of the evening proceedings.
