So I replaced the color wheel on my tv and now have a color picture. One down. One to go. I still have the distorted picture. Picture distorts the most when playing dvd's, but it'll also do it with cable. I tried all inputs and it's the same problem. It has got to be one of the boards. Either the dmd board or the analog one. Think its the analog board though. Or maybe the light engine? Any ideas?
Well, I tried the s-video, hdmi and video component cables (green, blue, red) plus audio and it works fine. Picture is good. No problems. Indications that it is indeed the analog board. I don't think I'll bother with it for a while. I'll just upgrade my cables and video quality.
Ok - sorry, just read someone else's posting, apparently that possiblity of a synching issue was already brought up.....

There is an alignment procedure needed in some cases - after replacing the color wheel. I have not personally performed it, but have read about it in a mitsubishi service manual.

@TheClearparadigm These DLP's did have HDMI. They are HDTV not HDTV READY which would be DVI. Anyways both DVI and HDMI signaling is the same just that DVI lacked audio. Anywho, for xprezzz: After you replace the colour wheel you should sync the new wheel to the old DMD like your suppose too. Not saying that will help with the distortion but you got to do what the manufacture does. Anyways just sync it then if still distortion you might look into buying a oscilloscope or just a logic analyzer

This is not a color wheel issue and its not a bad solder on the engine DVI processor. You are probably running your cables through a surround sound system and/or with a DVD player. These DLPs did not have HDMI cables either so the conflict is with how the cables are run and which components they are connected to. One technician explained that it was a way to prevent recording DVDs. Doing a direct connect fixed the issue but I'd rather run though my surround sound with all my components.
