Costa Mesa Newport California Tornado Warning 19Jan2010 driving in 2007 Honda Fit

Quick NOTE: I didn't catch the tornado, just started recording after driving through an amazing down pour and super strong winds, so no tornado caught.

I got a call from a client on this Rainy day up in Orange, Costa Mesa area. The rain was not bad as I started out of San Diego, but as I got close to Newport, CA it got windy and the rain sounded like hail hitting my car, but no hail. I tuned to KNX1070 am as it's the most listened to news station in Los Angeles and to my shock, there was a tornado warning being issued to the Long Beach, Costa Mesa, Newport, Laguna Beach areas.

After seeing a BMW loose control behind me, I decided to start recording and as you'll see, it's raining cats and dogs. By the way, some moron is driving on my lane going the opposite way. Lots of strong winds and flooding going on. I was a little nervous and even yell out "Oh...S...t" at the 45 second mark. Soon after going over a flooded section of PCH in Costa Mesa the rain stops and all is calm. Later on I heard that a tornado hat struck Costa Mesa around the same time I was driving there. Scary stuff.

@TheLadyRaptor I have no idea what they were doing, I kept flashing my lights and they finally slowed down to move over. I had just avoided a BMW spinning out behind me when i started recording. I was coming up on PCH towards Newport Beach

@TheLadyRaptor I was on PCH the whole time, did you see the minivan driver that was coming towards me? I kept flashing my lights at them when they finally slowed down and moved out of the way.

Thanks, it was scary just before I started recording as winds were just so strong that I pulled over on the side of the road. I started driving again with my camera recording just as the strong winds died down.

Well, I'm so used to odd weather in California, I never think twice about it. There's never been a tornado warning in my area, there's been a tornado watch, but nothing ever developed. I think they only said that because up north there was a recent tornado.

NEWPORT i was there when this appened but now im in temecula
