Mel is committing a major felony by reading Alton's mail. It's illegal for anyone to open (punishment is 5 years in a federal prison) unless it's suspected of containing harmful (noxious chemicals), unlawful (illegal drugs, foreign goods or animals) or dangerous (handguns, letter bombs) materials. Even then, a mailman wouldn't be authorized to open it; that would be done by the proper authorities like the CIA. Watch it, Mel.
