KOROGWE, TANZANIA, October, 2011—Real hopes of preventing the deaths of thousands of children are being raised by the latest definitive Phase III study findings research on the RTS,S vaccine for malaria: the world's first immunisation for a parasitic disease recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr Samwel Gasese of the Tanzanian National Institute for Medical Research and Magunga Hospital in Korogwe and Dr Salim Abdulla, Director of the Ifakara Health Institute, Tanzania, assess the potential impact of the vaccine in Africa.
