Who is Herman van Rompuy?

Nigel Farage says EU president Herman van Rompuy has the charisma of a damp rag and the appearance of a low-grade bank clerk.

Nigel Farage, on behalf of the EFD Group. President of Europe this long-awaited day. We were told that, when we had a President, we would see a giant global political figure: the man that would be the political leader for five hundred million people; the man that would represent all of us on the world stage; the man whose job was so important that of course you are paid more than President Obama. Well, I am afraid what we got was you. And I am sorry, but after that performance that you gave earlier I do not want to be rude, but you know, really, you have the charisma of a damp rag and the appearance of a low-grade bank clerk.
The question that I want to ask and that we are all going to ask is: who are you? I had never heard of you; nobody in Europe had ever heard of you. I would like to ask you, Mr President: who voted for you?
And what mechanism I know democracy is not popular with you lot what mechanism do the peoples of Europe have to remove you? Is this European democracy?
I sense, though, that you are competent and capable and dangerous, and
I have no doubt that it is your intention to be the quiet assassin of European democracy and of the European nation states. You appear to have a loathing for the very concept of the existence of nation states; perhaps that is because you come from Belgium, which of course is pretty much a non-country.
But since you took over, we have seen Greece reduced to nothing more than a protectorate. Sir, you have no legitimacy in this job at all, and I can say with confidence that I can speak on behalf of the majority of the British people in saying: we do not know you, we do not want you, and the sooner you are put out to grass, the better.

No, democracy is where a president who gets voted for by it's people. Hermann von Rompuy clearly was not on the voting list, he was appointed to be the president. Even Hitler's rise to power had a more democratic meaning than this man who really came out of nowhere.

It's a joke to claim our economic system is in danger thanks to the immigrants, certainly if you're debating true democracy. As it is the same in my country: it was shaped by many foreign influences. The real danger are the non-elected multinationals who run our economy.

He's not anti-europe. He's against the current EU parliment, which is stripping nations of the power to govern themselves.

UKIP is not a sensationalist party, it's a party that has given voice to how many people in the UK are feeling about Europe, no other party is offering this.

I'm sure you're very hard working, but unfortunatley this country is full of immigrants while it's natives are struggling for work.
