I first heard this song in Vancouver. I had been going to the open mics at a place called the Wired Monk on West 4th Ave. One night in February 2009, a young performer got up with his acoustic guitar and did this great song. He played it with a kind of eclectic jazz and blues feel and it seemed off-the-cuff. A very natural and gifted performance, almost without effort, he spent half the time jamming, and the other singing and simply getting lost in the song. I looked it up later and discovered it was originally by Reed. Sadly, the week following, the open mics at the Wired Monk were cancelled due to issues with the condos above the cafe. I never saw the singer again. The yuppies above complained about the music and until things were settled, there would be no more open mics. I don't know if it was ever resolved. As for my rendition of the song, I do more of a folk version.
