'Reference' is a term used (and abused) by many loudspeaker companies but owned by only one. KEF. When the laboratories at KEF begin to develop a new loudspeaker they build a prototype that's as near to perfect as possible. This then becomes 'The Reference' to which each speaker made thereafter must match exactly, at every level.

Each pair of KEF Reference loudspeakers is hand assembled by just one highly skilled craftsman in Maidstone, UK. It's their responsibility to make sure that every aspect of their work matches 'The Reference'. It's a skill that takes both time and patience. But once you've heard the results we're sure you'll agree it's time well spent.

  • @telescopereplicator - Are you insane?! Have you heard the 207/2's???? Its as if God himself came down and created a loudspeaker. I can proudly say there is no need for me to ever have to purchase another pair of any loudspeaker for my home theatre room ever again. I'm curious of your qualifications as an engineer - better than the entire team at the KEF offices, who I hear coincidentally also engineer Celestion drivers (drivers in all Fender, Marshall cabs etc...) ??? I doubt it. Ridiculous.

  • @nahojgrooc I just read the reviews and they all say this speaker is fantastic. But I remember all too well what kind of cheap stuff KEF used to put inside their speakers. With these flimsy filters they still sounded quite good. But with a filter, build up with high-end components, they sounded a lot better. So when I look at this small speaker, only a small filter can fit. High end parts are large, usually. Without being arrogant I dare say I can improve on this little gem even more.

  • @telescopereplicator - unfortunately some misconceived and untrue statements made here. You may wnat to check out the many independent reviews on the Reference 201/2 - like Stereophile.

    best regards

  • Just looking at the way the speaker shown here is built I can see a few things I would change to get a better sound out of it. The small size alone shows it has not enough space inside to harbour a few high-end components, because they are quite large. I am a big Kef fan, I love the 105 and 104.2. But when I look at those pettyful, tiny components, Kef uses for the filters, all I can think is "why...?" Kef speaker CAN sound superb, but you MUST use top quality filter components, not rubbish.

  • No such thing as a flawless speakers, but nice nonetheless never heard them though..
