The 1960s: steam trains can still be seen at Chelmsford station, and the streets of Colchester are filling up with scooters and Ford Anglias.

The Military Tattoo is an annual crowd pleaser, the new University has opened its doors and Colchester United is still playing at Layer Road.

Journey down memory lane and see what life was like in both Colchester and Chelmsford, including:
Kings Road Junior school and Chelmsford Girls High School
Essex police trialling their new helicopters
Student rebellion at the University of Essex

  • I lived there in the 1960s - unfortunately I don't remember it - my parents left before my third birthday!

  • Nice archive footage but the double deckers are not routemasters

  • apologies for the unintentional spam! i hit the "post" key a couple of times too many.
