Excerpts of NASA Administrator Charles Bolden speaking at a Sept. 14, 2011news conference at the Senate Dirksen Building, Washington, D.C., during which the selected design of a new Space Launch System was announced.
This new heavy-lift rocket will take the agency's astronauts farther into space than ever before, create high-quality jobs here at home, and provide the cornerstone for America's future human space exploration efforts. The boosterwill be America's most powerful since the Saturn V rocket that carried Apollo astronauts to the moon and will launch humans to places no one has gone before.

Poor Charlie didn't want another blast for not meeting congress requirements.
The upper stage is a fairytale. What is really needed is the bottom part that launches Orion.
The problem is the upper stage is written into the law.
This is the only way Charlie could get out of this situation and he deserves a medal for it but you have to see it for what it really is.

Thiokol Corporation and Lockheed Martin FAILED us with Shuttle. So why we are dealing with the same contractors with SLS is a total slap in the face to all people who care about progress.
If you buy a car and it ends up costing over 20 time what the dealer told it would cost and blows up 1/65 times you use it, are you going to buy from the same car company? If you did, you would be stupid. So why do we do it? Campaign contributions by the above contractors.
