The best of the handheld scanners that I have used so far, The UBC3500 XLT works from 25 - 1300 mhz. I use a moonraker 25DB amp & an omnidirectional Scanner master antenna on the side of the house. I also use a Watson w-881 wideband super gain antenna when mobile. In this video, I show the setup & some of the functions to set up the channels, one of which is the UNIDEN close call function.

  • I've got this scanner and use it with the supplied rubber duck aerial. To my ears the sound is muffled and there's a ton of hiss with every airband transmission I pick up.

I honestly prefer my old AOR 1000 that I got in the 80s. More sensitivity on the stock aerial and far better sound quality.

  • @ChorltonM21 I had the same problem with almost every scanner, moreso in the past few years. From what I read up on the subject, it's to do with interference from things like WIFI routers & electrical interference in general. You are'nt going to get a good range & clear signal nowadays without using a preamp & an external antenna like a scanking or dipole.

  • Fabulous and informative video. Recently bought one of these and your video has helped tremendously. Thank you.
