News Update: Judge Rules Against Obama's Stem Cell Policy

A federal judge's Monday ruling blocked President Obama's 2009 order to expand embryonic stem cell research. Chief Judge Royce Lamberth of DC's Federal District Court says the presidential order violates a ban on using federal money to destroy embryos.

Scientists across the country are trying to make sense of what this ruling means for their work. Judge Lamberth wrote he was returning federal policy to the "status quo." However, many are wondering whether this means recent federally financed work needs to stop immediately or if Bush administration rules will be enacted for future grants.

Steven Aden, senior counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund--the party suing to overturn Obama's policy, said Lamberth's ruling "means that for now the N.I.H. cannot issue funding grants to embryonic stem cell research projects without any further order from the court."

Health institutions are looking to lawyers at the Department of Justice for legal interpretation.

People that don't have anything should stop interfering and try come up with creative ideas to stimulate the entire world that stem cells, embryonic or adult... I don't care, if it regenerates, it can only be not just good but amazing. Those that are complaining should rather invest then waste their time. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Hey DefaultArtist, Props 2 U. America is being left behind. And all because of some Orgs. religions, and most baby boomer right wing closed minded pigs, People that could be helped by the prospect of having their missing limbs, or severed spines regenerated by the 'miracle' of science. What is wrong with using adult stem cells? Or using a small amount of the tax payer dollars to fund research. Taxpayers should have a say. Someday, stem cells will be used to help all humans with various physical conditions, it's just a matter of time. The younger generation understands that, no longer will religion or (ADL) dictate or force their unrealistic views on (what or who) decides can help a person get their lives back from paralysis, wartime injuries, maybe cancer or most diseases.
