I didn't notice at first, but you are right. I don't know for sure, but one posible reason could be that you get a more brighting sound. Why?, because you are geting closer to the bridge... it makes sense?... is the only reason coming to my mind... just guessing of course.

Gary's neck pick up is mounted with the pole pieces towards the bridge side rather than the neck side. Has anyone reading this tried that and if so what benefit was noticed?
