Giant Rock at Johnson Valley, Ca. There is an airstrip nearby and there was a cafe in service until about '72. A German immigrant built an underground house under the rock in the late 30's. He was killed there in 1942 when deputies threw in tear gas and it ignited some dynamite he had for mining, they wanted to question him for possible ties to the Nazi's. Cracked in early 2000 from a huge bonfire. Lot's more interesting facts but not enough room to put it all.
As far as I know a bunch of people were there with a huge bonfire up against the rock one night, (no one got crushed)
kinda sad they had to wreck such a cool monument.
