@pmoskoso oh bull crap. this game was the one thing americans could be proud about. it was an almost impossible win and we pulled it off. the average age of the us team was 21 while the soviets had been playing together for 15 years. that puts the world cup to shame. nobody gives a crapppppp about soccer, especially in the US

@adub4ever No, not even close. The USA was mired in so many bad things...gasoline shortages...Iran hostage crisis...cold war with USSR...the feeling at the time (1979-1980) was that America couldn't get out of its own way...and as Mike Eruzione put it "then we (the hockey team) come along."
