This is the first time I'm testing out the Sony HVR-Z5U. Filmed in 24p and messed around with the slow motion function. It was unfortunately a rainy day out so I was stuck having to shoot inside. I was able to get a few shots outside in my backyard when the rain momentarily stopped.

  • So Pro!

  • @TheNukesLab thanks.

  • This test makes me thinking about having one of Z5. Really nice

  • @algabbani Thank you very much.

  • Can I use the Z5U without tape (by using CF card recorder)? Also does it record true progressive 24p or does it convert it to 60i?

  • @dafreeesubsman Yes you can buy a separate unit to record onto CF cards. It is 24p.

mmm idk. I can get the same effect with the half priced NEX VG10 and a good lens. Especially if i'm doing bokeh shots.

The Z5 really shines when it comes to wide shots though, something this video doesn't really show you.

The extra sharpness kicks the VG10s butt there. BUT with a good Carl Zeiss the VG10 can close the gap and produce near identical results.

I'd recommend that you look at the VG10 or NXcam first if you like this kinda film style

  • @wuzupyt You can use any camera to shoot a film really, even a phone camera if need be haha. But anyways yeah it's a great camera to shot a film with. around $4000.

  • @SVProvideo Nice, that's ok don't regret what you got, a camera is a camera it's only a tool. Have fun shooting!

  • Great video. I went with the Sony NX5U recently over the Z5U because the NX5U has HD-SDI out. In retrospect, I wish I had bought the Z5U with the optional Flash unit instead. I miss being able to archive on tape.
