  • Awesome song, amhrán iontach deas.

One mistake in the title here though, it is "An Mhaighdean Mhara" (maighdean is feminine).

  • @Lughaidh2 Hi thanks for pointing that out to me. As I'm not a fluent Irish speaker I didn't notice it but as an Irish person with some Irish I probably should have had.

  • Beautiful voice this lady has, I just wish I could pronounce her name as I do know she's part of the string sisters ensemble, correct?

  • at karen and lughaidh people like you are part of the reason why people feel intimidated about speaking irish ~ that needs to change or its gone ~ stop excluding people and enjoy the music

  • Most beautiful singing this side of heaven!

  • @karenconneely, Níl sé ceart, de ghnáth cuirtear séimhiú ar ainmfhocal sa ghinideach má tá sé i ndiaidh ainmfhocail bhaininscnigh uatha sa tuiseal ainmneach. Mura gcreideann tú mé, amharc ar New Irish Grammar, lch. 15, nó ar fhoclóir Uí Dhónaill faoi 'maighdean', lch. 818. Agus cibé ar bith, ins an fhíseán deireann Mairéad "An Mhaighdean Mhara" agus is cainteoir dúchais Gaeltachta í.

  • @Lughaidh2 actually An Mhaighdean Mara is correct, the word 'mara' is in the genitive case, so it doesnt take a séimhiú. Adjectives take séimhiús after feminine nouns (such as maighgean) as do the nouns themselves take séimhiús after the definite article. but as the word 'mara' is the genitive form of the noun 'muir', it has no séimhiú. If 'mara' were some other proper noun it would take a séimhiú..either way, a chara, s'í an mhaighdean mara an leagan ceart ...sorry to load you with grammar!
