A walk up Storm King Mountain, discussing lessons learned from historical wildland firefighter fatalities.
Adapted from the National Wildfire Coordinating Group training package, PMS-490 "Lessons Learned: Fatality Fire Case Studies"
VHS video (NFES 2565) may be ordered from the Great Basin supply office.
@yunleilei exactly, when they started all the memory stuff, it only seemed to create a sort of division between older firefighters and the newer ones...
Also memorizing every piece of equipment on the truck, etc.

@yunleilei nothing wrong with the 13 watch outs, he might have some experience after all. I remember them from rote rehearsal just before I went to the Wheeler fire in Ojai...do the math. And the 10 standard firefighting orders, before they had to have a cool mnemonic device. You had to really memorize them.

Where did they dig this guy up? I was a crew sup at the Dude fire, and I think they should have someone who was there actually narrate. Could he tell us what White's bite is? About the good old thin Nomex? A belt made of helo or aircraft seatbelts? Aluminum canteens? Maybe the aluminum Bullard helmets?
Better yet, could he even wear current gear? button your shirt, wear a helmet, and put on a shelter and a pack for Christ's sake.

Even if the book may be better, what makes this guy a joke?

This guy's a joke. See him in your next "lessons learned" class. Just read "Fire on the Mountain." by John Mclean. It's the real story.

Firefighters on the ground need lookouts all the time. On this fire a lookout could have been posted across the canyon.
