Why Hire a Sauder Co-op Student: video transcript
Production Company: Qube Film

Lynne Murchie (00:06 -- 00:30)
Since 1999, the Sauder School of Business Co-op program has provided students with the opportunity to develop business skills, accelerate their learning, and clarify their career goals. During the Co-op Program students alternate 4- or 8-month terms of paid employment with their academic studies. By the end of the program, students will have gained 12 months of relevant work experience that builds their confidence and their business networks.

Let's get to work. (00:30 -- 00:34)

Tracey Arnish, SAP (00:34 -- 01:05)
Our Co-op hiring is a really, really important part of our talent acquisition strategy here at SAP. We know that the students of today possess the skills that we, as an organization, need for tomorrow and the energy and innovation and the new way of thinking that Sauder students bring to us really enables our business to achieve both its long term and short term goals. We really see an opportunity for us, as an organization, to help develop the talent and mentor the city's talent because we hope that this'll be our talent tomorrow.

Jennifer Kim, TSI (01:05 -- 01:20)
We hire UBC Co-op students because they come up with some really fresh new ideas. It really helps to build the morale within the teams that they are a part of well as well it's a really good, cost-effective way to fill our short-term staffing vacancies.

Bill Millerd, Arts Club Theatre (01:20 -- 01:30)
We think it's a wonderful opportunity to mentor these students and also the students bring a fresh approach to what we do, so it's a win-win for both of us, I think.

Gary Nakagawa, PWGSC (01:30 -- 01:46)
Public Works and Government Services Canada is building its workforce of the future. Demographics aging, we need the best talent from the universities across Canada. Co-op programs give us access to that talent pool.

John Lyotier, Left of the Dot (01:46 -- 01:54)
The students are great. We get great value for our money and as a startup we really make sure our dollars go really far and the students we get; they definitely know their stuff.

Let's get to work. With talent. (01:54 -- 02:00)

Bill Millerd, Arts Club Theatre (02:00 -- 02:23)
The skills that the students bring (and maybe the "attributes" is a better way to phrase it), is a fresh approach. They're eager, they have a wanting for knowledge, they want to learn things, so they're very, very inquisitive. They're always very friendly, they fit in very well. I think they're outstanding in a way.

Jennifer Kim, TSI (02:24 -- 02:35)
They really come prepared and ready to be in the workforce. I feel like the training that they get from UBC Sauder really helps them once they get here to integrate and be part of the team.

Tracey Arnish, SAP (02:35 -- 02:46)
What I'm really excited about is that they come to work with a really new way of thinking and a new way of working that actually enables our employees to learn a different approach to how to get work done.

John Lyotier, Left of the Dot (02:47 -- 03:00)
What really sets the Sauder students apart is the caliber of students. The co-founder, Chris, and myself were laughing after we saw the first batch. When we went to school, we were nowhere as prepared or as wise or as seasoned as the students were getting.

Let's get to work. With good people. (03:00 -- 03:06)

Tracey Arnish (03:06 -- 03:22)
The Sauder Co-op staff have been an absolutely fantastic partner to us throughout our experience at UBC. Not only do they help us with the posting and the placement, but they're very involved throughout the work term of the students' time with us and on the follow up that happens after they've completed their term.

Gary Nakagawa (03:23 -- 03:29 (6)
They strive to provide the best fit for us, whether it be in Business and Computer Science, Finance, or Real Estate.

Lynne Murchie (03:30-03:45) (15)
