Because she was an NPC, and she started playing just as I had my Sim start painting.

It's very simple to do. You know of course that your Sims can paint custom paintings. All you have to do is go into the file for the paintings and add whichever new paintings you'd like for your Sims to do. Then, in the game, click on them to paint a custom painting, and choose that particular one.
