The V chord is a minor, so, in your chording, it would be A Major > D Major > E Minor. You'll have to ask Richard Berry why because he wrote it that way. I have no idea, but, having learned this from the actual sheet music, playing the V chord as it would logically be sounds completely wrong. Perhaps a music theorist can explain it. I can't, but the V chord, the A, is a minor.

The correct way doesn't use power chords. For everybody here, I'll tell you the basic way to play it. Your gonna use an A major chord, strum that 3 times, then switch to a D major chord, strum that twice, thento an E major chord, strum that 3 times, then back to D, strummed twice. I have a video also on how to play it, and a video that shows how to play the chords. Hope it was helpful! (Also, you need to turn up the volume 100% to hear this dude) Kiwi9909 was here! :P :)
