This group is from Everett Washington. the record was cut in 1957 or 59 it was also cut on the Aladdin label. This is one of those songs that just grows and grows on you every time you hear it.
I have this on Rhythm and Blues cd - vols. 1 and 2, a Steve la Vere production. According to the sleeve notes: "Little is known about The Shades, who recorded two mellow ballad selections, Dear Lori and One Touch of heaven for Imperial. Neither song was issued previous to this time." JV, London, UK
Just wondering if this could be a knock off. There were several rare records pressed in New York in the late 60's and early 70's before fans started demanding an "R" be added in the vinyl. This label looks authentic for 1955 but Imperial doesn't list it. There was a Shades group that recorded for Times Square Records but only one record: "The Chimes" b/w "Voodoo Woman" . I think the original was Aladdin 3453 recorded 1959 and b/w Dear Lori
Somethings A Little Odd Here,Is This The Same Shades That Recorded For Aladdin? If I'm Not Mistaken The Song Was Not Released Till"58"Is The Flipside Dear Lori?.I Noticed Someone Commented 1955 Which Would Be Correct Given The Label Number As 5358,But I Thought Archibalds Stack-O-Lee Was Imperial 5358.If This Is The Same Shades I'm Thinking Of,They Were A Racially Mixed Group From Everett,Washington,The Lead Singer Larry Nelson Owned And Operated A Radio Station In Seattle,He Passed In 2007
i agree with you very strange song and tiitle but the lead is good also the backing is pretty awesome i like these more unuseual doowop songs keep up the good work!!!!!!
