I think those that voted for manchester voted for oz after uk got voted knocked out and if im not misaken that favour was remembered for london 2012!!!

As I recall, the vote for the 2000 Games was very close. Sydney 45-43 Beijing.

yeah! agree! he clearly said Sydney, NOT syd-en-ey i think some comedian tried to imitate this accent and it caught on through aussie media.
