Available in High Quality. This is me climbing at the RRG. The area is called Pendergrass, and the section we were at is called The Gallery, and the route was 27 Years of Climbing.

The guide book says that this is probably the best 5.8 route in the entire Gorge. I told some lady that it was my first roped climbing on real rock, and she got so jealous that she replied; "I wish I had got to climb this one as my first outdoor climb, you all are so lucky". For people that don't know, anyone should be able to top rope a 5.8, unless you are way too out of shape or something. I wouldn't expect a beginner to be able to lead or redpoint it(Redpoint-to climb the entire route without falling or resting on the rope), but almost anyone should be able to make it to the top eventually. Actually one guy in our group who normally climbs 5.10A's and B's in our gym didn't climb to the very top. He hated working that bulge right before you get to the top. He should of stuck it out and kept making attempts, but he gave up on about his 3rd try.

We also climbed a 5.10A, a 5.10B, and a 5.10C after that. The 5.8 is the warmup route. Good thing we got there first; there was a waiting line for that route the entire day.

The date was Sep 21 2008.

  • i go here every year, kentucky

  • Most people I hear, when they talk about redpointing, mean climbing the route on lead, clipping every bolt as you go, with no falls or rests on the rope or draws. They'll call it a pink point if they've gone through and placed all the draws and then lead just clipping the rope. Otherwise no falls, no rests is simply a send. Unless it's a send on the first try, a flash, or a first try without reading any beta or without watching anyone climb it, an onsight.

    kudos. Love that route.
