@hhoSteam i keep seeing a reoccurring black sand that is packed in, but i didn't notice a catalyst to get it to harden- it seemed that it packed virtually dry and held its form- is that the material you picked up at the foundry-and do you need some kind of setting agent when working with the casting sand? or is tightly packing it enough?

i am castin a tin bismuth mix and am using latex platinum cure molds because they hold a temp of 300 degrees- i want to move to aluminum because it much cheaper and about 1/20th the weight- i was very interested in your torch assembly and was hoping you could lead me on to fine detail sand, or the best sand available for smaller detailed castings. i noticed a few comments below, but have never used sand, only latex is there a manufacturer i could call or could you reply with a few materials or #s

I did a search for “Foundry” in my area and found one that was more than willing to sell me about 4 5gal buckets of sand. It was cheaper than making it my self because of the shipping costs! if your detail is that fine then you may want to search for something called "No Bake" the sand is very fine and sets just like Plaster. It's more expensive to use because it's a One time use product.
