  • By the way, it's incorrect to refer to this vessel as a "battleship". The term "battleship" in English is not a general term for any warship but a special term denoting a very large warship with very large guns (Google it and you'll see.) After WW II, "battleships" went out of use. They were made absolete by the development of ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore missiles. This ship, called "tau phao" can be translated as a gunboat or a gunship.

  • This is a great development in the Vietnamese shipbuilding industry. This vessel was built at a cost of only US$1 million. The same one would cost at least US$10 million to buy in the world market. Designing and constructing this ship also gave Vietnamese naval architects, engineers, techicians and craftsmen valuable experience. You can expected to see many more ships of all kinds built in Vietnamese shipyards in the years ahead.

  • This is a great step for the Vietnamese shipbuilding industry, no matter how you look at it. They were able to complete this vessel at a cost of only US$ 1 million while an equivalent ship would go for at least US$ 10 million in the world market. Vietnamese naval architects, engineers, technicians and craftsmen also learned much from the process.
