@NewYorkFlavour as I've told someone else who has commented on the same thing, he did mention the Jutes who came from modern day Denmark. this is a watered down lecture, and he only briefly mentioned that influence. I agree that he should have emphasized the Norse influence, because it's one of the reasons why English phonetics changed so much, and why are letters and sounds hardly match up.
they didn't speak french to impress one another. that language was spoken by the court for the obvious reason - they were french! it's just that there's been a mixture of the two languages and the middle english has been developed. and it sounded more french than english.

He's acting like it's just German/French. There was a massive Norse influence on the language that he's not mentioning.

Appantly we actually have 900, 000 words! ( The larger sum must be true cos I have read Greek has 700,000)
