(June 4)More bad news on the way for summer travelers as yet another carrier says it may be making substantial cutbacks. Florida-based Spirit Airlines says it could begin laying off up to 60 percent of its flight attendants and 45 percent of its pilots---A move that would allow the company to close its hubs in New York, Fort Lauderdale and San Juan, Puerto Rico. SOT- Richards "I think it's terrible, because I fly Spirit all the time." The proposed layoffs at Spirit are the most recent example of the industry struggling to cope with fuel prices that have soared to record highs in recent months. SOT- Larsen "The fuel prices right now are just ridiculous, you know. I mean , everyone's just making changes to their everyday lives just to get around, so And this is obviously one of them."In May, American Airlines announced it would be cutting its flight capacity by nearly 12 percent after summer. SOT- Meyer "A day doesn't got by that you don't see some, some business saying, announcing layoffs. • Man, Spirit used to be one of the best carriers out there. Now they are terrible, and use perverted humor for advertising!

  • I do NOT think I would fly Spirit any more. They have canceled our return flights more then 6 times so far and we still have 3 1/2 weeks left before we leave. They have every excuse except the truth !!

  • Spirit and its pilots are done! They will not recover from this.. People do not feel sorry for the well paid pilots or the company whichs charges you for just about everything. I look forward to seeing the pilots on the unemployment lines for passing up a 30 % increase in pay and retirement.

  • you guys don't think about the employees .....

  • Spirit is run by a dirtbag CEO (Baldanza) that numerous times has said that he does not care about customer service b/c as soon as we save them (the customer)a penny they will be back. He does not care about the quality of pilots hired here or keeping them happy or training them properly. I really hope there is a special lazy boy in hell for these CEO's that treat poeple like this to line their own pockets.

  • @banstaman its because of the new ceo he sucks all hes trying to do is put more money in his scamming pocket

  • They didn't close hubs instead they are charging for carryon bags

  • this was a long time ago tho, before in the summer of 2008, because of the economy in gasoline when the prices when up to four dollars a gallon every airline at this time was pretty much screwed, but now in 2009 every airline is usually at a steady point.

  • Yes good idea clossing that Fucking Airline piece of Shit.

  • True that. Good point, very good point.

  • But I mean Burger King doesn't throw MILF all around the place.
