Parrots International officially adopted the Spix's Macaw School in 2006, then quickly gained partners in Support of the School. Located in Curaca, Brazil, the Spix's Macaw School is important as it begins to enlist the support of the local population in the area where the Spix's Macaw Working Group considers a probably release area for the reintroduction of the Spix's Macaw . The Partners for the Spix's Macaw School Project began by supporting the children's education, school meals, purchasing school supplies and new desks and chairs, and updating solar eletrical equipment. In 2008 the Partners funded a major enlargement for the school and began supporting adult education classes for the local adults. Many of the local adults have no reading and writing skills, and the Spix's Macaw School has become their chance at a better life...as well as for their children.
