I visit the Big City Music booth and then noodle around a bit on a digital mellotron

  • Hi Roger! Wow, that is pretty funny. I figured the pulsing sensation and squeeky tape-roller sound when I pressed some of the keys was a great recreation of the "authentic" feel!

Finally got my hands on a real mellotron and didn't even know it! - Joel

  • Do mellotron's still use tapes? Or is that just a sampler?

  • Hi onephatcat. If you wonder why the Mellotron sounded so good, it was a real one you were noodling around on, not a digital one.

If you had taken a look below the keyboard, you would have seen the tapes moving up as you pressed on the keys.

  • the flute voice on that thing sounds great
