Detroit's old City Hall was dedicated on July 4, 1871. It was razed in 1961 because city officials felt it was holding back progress and that it was "old" and "ugly," newspapers at the time reported. It is single-handedly the most devastating architectural loss the city has suffered.
After the site sat empty as a park for decades, the One Kennedy Square building was finally built on top of it in 2005-2006.
Featuring "Second Line" by Clinic.

  • That seems to be what the city of detroit is good at is dimolishing its history case in point one of the more recent FUCK UPS tiger stadium !

  • Lovely piece. I still have a brick from the ruins. I've included this video on my channel for the benefit of my urban Economic students at Wayne State University.

  • Detroit has some really cool architecture. Too bad they tore down some of the best buildings. They did the same kind of thing here in Columbus, OH and our downtown has suffered.
