This is a short film of myself making a Sodium Fusion test, which can be used to identify N, S, and X(halide) of an unknown compound. A sodium metal was heated in a test tube until vapors started to rise. Then, about 10 mg of the unknown into the test tube and a reaction occurs. When that test tube was placed in distilled water, the test tube cracks and fills the beaker with water with the sodium fusion solution.
Did the tube break?

We performed sodium fusion in our lab! But instead of test tube, we used vials..Do we have to crack the tube or vial?

You didn't heat it for nearly long enough, complete reduction did not have sufficient time to occur.
