This is a short film of myself making a Sodium Fusion test, which can be used to identify N, S, and X(halide) of an unknown compound. A sodium metal was heated in a test tube until vapors started to rise. Then, about 10 mg of the unknown into the test tube and a reaction occurs. When that test tube was placed in distilled water, the test tube cracks and fills the beaker with water with the sodium fusion solution.

  • Did the tube break?

  • We performed sodium fusion in our lab! But instead of test tube, we used vials..Do we have to crack the tube or vial?

  • You didn't heat it for nearly long enough, complete reduction did not have sufficient time to occur.

  • can't see anything
