Winter means offshore winds. We were so keen for a surf session, we went to a reef a couple of km offshore and launched two kites from the boat. Westerly winds, southerly swell. We swapped the two kites between the three of us.

Lines were attached to the kite on the shore before leaving. They were rolled up, and put in the kite, then the kite was rolled and folded normally.
The kite was pumped up on the boat in the normal way.
The kiter swam out from the boat unrolling the lines as he went. The guy staying on the boat launched the kite.
Kite was landed by flying it back to the guy on the boat.

Yep. The reef is known as 'The Sisters'. We were there 3 or 4 weeks ago after that east coast low went by.
