A presentation of organic mite treatment using an "ether roll" to determine a mite count... and then sugar dusting as one of several treatments to manage varroa mites in a bee hive. In this demonstration, we do the ether roll and even though the hive is not infested with mites, we still do the powder dusting for eductional purposes.   • continued from below. Then shake the jar upside down onto a flat surface and the mites and powdered sugar will fall out and keep your bees alive. Count the mites and put the bees back into the hive. That's the way I do it without killing any of my bees. take care and care for the bees.

  • There's a way to do your mite check without killing your two cups of bees in rubbing alcohol. Put a mark on that same size jar for the level of the dead bees you had in this video. that's about 300 bees or two cups. You can put the bees in the jar the same way you did but instead of adding the rubbing alcohol add a heaping tablespoon of the powdered sugar into the jar that has a screen top on it. Then shake the bees around in the powdered sugar and let it sit for about a min. for the mites to
