Part 1 of 3.

You know the story. A year after a Long Island family was butchered as they slept (by the eldest son), a newly-married couple buys the house and moves in with their young family, not knowing that a horrifying supernatural presence awaits them. Sounds like a cool plot for a movie, but this supposedly really happened. Did the haunting really take place, or was it a hoax? This special Halloween episode of "Primetime Live" (first aired in 2003) explores the case, and tries to find out if anything has been uncovered in the past 27 years. Is it true that the house was moved to another street in Amityville?

@rubinoos1 The house has never been moved. It was built in 1924. The house that stood on that property prior to that was moved up the block (on Ireland) where it still stands today.

The fact that no one in the neighborhood heard the gunshots and all of the bodies were found lying on their stomachs baffles me.

That book was contrived and misspelled drivel--Ric wrote that book because George kicked him off the book project they had been planning (for lack of professionalism. Maybe you should re-read it) . I did read it. The only "hoax" was contrived by Weber and Kaplan. You should really look into this closer. As I said, *prove it*. Or stay at home with your Kiss (and other) fantasies.

No I do not believe in Kathy and George story,because they knew what they were buying into and that was a whole lot of money,to get in on the book and the movie,they knew there was a book being writing and they found a way to get some off that money,with out George and Kathy Amityville 2 would have been made,what a couple of gold diggers.

kathy lutz came up with the idea; gradually convinced her husband there may be something supernatural in the house. the rest came when the book deal was made; george lutz just doesnt know when to stop when creating "ideas"; kathy was embarassed by this at times; there is no haunting there; no burial ground; just imaginative people telling stories and others enjoying listening to them.

I can picture Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) walk into the Amityville house with his Proton Pack and say something like "Lets show this Prehistoric Demon how we do things downtown" LOL

One thing that is true is that the murders did take place, but the Lutzes story that is harder to prove as much as I'm a skeptic when it comes to the paranormal I do try to keep an open mind.

@JackieP17402 @TheOpenMinded12460 Robert used a silencer on his rifle and then removed the silencer to make the house look "haunted. The family lied on their stomachs to smother them selves to sleep in a suicide cult maybe. The family may have just slept like that anyway. I am thinking it was a suicide cult and a murderous scam that failed.
