I don't understand why people think this movie is so bad?

horrible lip-syncing

This was Dory Previn's (Andre's wife) idea of what a Broadway musical song would sound like. Everything about this film was amateurish and phony, which is why it's still a guilty pleasure to many, including me. Notice at :52 the woman seated behind Barbara Parkins is wearing the same fabric. Guess they had some left over.

To make it even more confusing, it's Anita Ellis on the soundtrack recording on the album/cd due to recording contractual issues Whiting had at that time. So we have Garland, Whiting, and Ellis.

This is Margaret Whiting.

This is Valley of the Dolls? Did Maggie voice Susan Heyward's songs?

It is, and she did. Susan and that mobile are so distracting, you don't notice at first but when you listen to it again, you'll hear it.
