What can Research Teach us about Childhood Anxiety Disorders?
Dr. Arlene Young

Fears and anxieties are quite common in childhood but some children's worries and fears are so intense and disruptive that they need treatment from a clinical psychologist or other mental health professional.

Research is an essential tool for understanding why children develop anxiety disorders and how best to treat and prevent these problems.

This talk highlights some new research being conducted within the Psychology Department at Simon Fraser University to help us understand why some children may be more vulnerable to developing anxiety disorders and what we can do to treat children in the most effective way possible.

This research draws on methods used in cognitive, developmental, and clinical psychology to help clarify the mechanisms underlying anxiety in children.
