Harry Truman received no pension after leaving office. I don't know that he relied upon SSI as his only source of income, but I do know that he was not a wealthy man.

You're right, life is not film; but for men who were supposed to be experienced in covert operations. If you've studied the details of the break-in itself, you'll quickly see that even a rank amateur could have done better.

I know what you mean but I believe that stuff like "24" and other similar TV shows and films lead us to erroneously believe that, despite ALL experience that governments/civil servants/police forces are UTTERLY incompetent, there exists some secret higher plane of superhuman ability. I think it doubtful, and rather police officers and/or lone losers who rise to the heights of secret service remain just as vulnerable to collosal incompetence.

What gets me is that Watergate is, in some ways, what TV and film fodder is what Watergate was made of; it was totally nonsensical from beginning to end.

There was no Democrat who could have defeated RMN in '72; the party itself was in the state of disarray. All Nixon had to do was sit back and let the Democrats lose the Presidential race.
