@giulia2503 and just didnt get the point that this book was meant for critizise the society of how women were repressed and the consequences were this.This here were some people just miss the point of the book and consider Emma a heroine and other consider her a whore,but they just cant see the real intention of Flaubert.It was nice to see your point of view and btw sorry for my grammar but as you can see english is not my native language

@giulia2503 well i never said that she was inmoral, i said she was naive and inmature because she didnt had the chance to develope herself, she just stick in her fantasy and she felt in love who didnt love her.This was just the case of any women in that society,some just stay quite and other decide to manipulate men and other wanted to live her fantasies,it is here were i think Flaubert criticize the society of that time.I think that everybody just emphazise the fact that she loved another men

@voypalla2000 Charles had a career, medicine was his great passion. What was left for Emma? She didn't have the vocation to be a nice housewive and a caring mother. So what? Lot of men also can't be a good husband and give attention to their children and I heard no story about they feeling so guilty about it, that comitted suicide. I don't justify her actions. But she had to marry someone, because not get married was not a option back then. Now she's evil because she couldn't love her husband?

@drml91 I just think the great merit of Flaubert was to put himself inside Emma's mind. "Madame Bovary c'est moi". And people who can just think about how immoral she was, and how she cheated her husband I think are missing the point of the book. Well, I cant' obligate anyone to like her. But I sympathize with her, she was unhappy and searching for something more. She could not go out and get a job, a career, or anything. She had desires and she was represed, and that caused her suicide.

@giulia2503 and you should realise that she suffered because were her actions what brought here there and she couldnt handle,thats a complex character but i dont think that flaubert wanted to make her an example for every women to follow, i think that it was more the tragedy of that life in those times were women were represed and they didnt get the chance to grow up just like Emma.

@giulia2503 yeah kinda,but i guess that you didnt understand the point of flaubert,he just describe an imature woman who wanted to live her fantasy,it were her actions that brought her to her tragedy and she just got to apoint that she didnt know what to do.I wont say that she deserved because thats missing the point,but it were her choices that not only affected her but her whole family,specially her husband who was very kind and loved her even to the point that he tries to justify her actions

I am a woman, and my opinion is this: Emma Bovary was a foolish who din ´t deserve the husband she had, who loved her.

She read too much, and thought that happiness is only ball gowns and poetry. I´m not gonna call her a whore, but I think that is not correct TO JUSTIFY a bad behavior because women were represed. Adultery is adultery. Everybody say: "oh, poor Emma". But What about Charles? nobody forced her to marry him.

I am not happy for her death, I just believe that she deserved her end.
