some newer 8100 are now locked by RIM. not just the phone carrier. I can't speak for all countries but in canada, i noticed RIM will charge you $90CAD to unlock your phone. Apparently they noticed they could make money of poeple unlocking there phones. I have yet to try the xsim (it's always the last solution).
