The Cornwall & Lebanon Railroad opened in 1883 and directly competed for ore traffic with the Cornwall Railroad (see my other video on the Cornwall RR). It ran from Lebanon, Pa through Cornwall and Mount Gretna down to Conewago. This little line was eventually acquired by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1918. It was abandoned by Penn Central in 1972 after Hurricane Agnes badly damaged the track and not enough freight revenue warranted its rebuilding.

  • I looked into music from this time period, but it just is not all that great. Did you ever listen to any turn of the century music? They are very odd pieces in my opinion. Anyhow, it is a modern view looking back on the past as I see it. Glad you agree klingoncelt.

  • What street did that go down?

  • I remember as a kid riding with my dad on the road from Elizabethtown to Lebanon, following a Pennsylvania Railroad GP9 and a short train from Lawn, Pa. to Colebrook. I remember also seeing a cut of Erie Lackawanna boxcars spotted in Lawn at one time. This must have been before 1972, when Penn Central abandoned the line.

  • I visited C&L station, not much left, the foundation and the water tower, something to see though, and emotional, back then you needed no car, trains and trolley were all you needed. I am only 27, but respect the history of the area, its just amazing.

  • Grew up there, went to Cornwall Elementry, which in the 50's was a high school. The truss bridge is still there, now modified for walking, part of rails to trails. Mt. Gretna Park, and the area around Lake Conewago, can you go there, or is that posted off as private property. Saw some pictures that fountains and the snack bar, and foundation remain of the station at the park, would like to visit those places, though closeby, not gonna waste my time if its posted, dont want any trouble lol.

  • Great video! Appreciate your time in putting it together! Unfortunately the only thing I remember is the great diesels pulling the ore trains!.....gw

  • Cool video, and though not from the era, its fitting music for "trains" fits along with the chug a chug of an engine. I live in Lebanon PA, and know some of the photos and where they were taken. Some of the places no longer remain, but I know where they were. And around lake conewago and Mt. Greta park, I have a metal detector, and could probably find relics. I need to figure out who owns what and get permission first though. Probably a treasure of coins, or nails from Hotel Conewago.

  • If this is about 1900 then the music should be of the time period 1880 - 1920... ... that is -20 years to +20 years from ground zero.

  • Ahh, the music's good, it's haunting.

  • Neat video, but loses the rock music next time,It should be music of that time era.
