The poor don't get "poorer" in this country. They either get better off or stay stagnant in their situation. This ain't no Robin Hood fairy tale. It's real life. Besides, don't the poor at least share a little bit of blame for not making something of themselves? It's always "blame the rich" on the Left side of things, but poor people can make every stupid decision they want and get away with it. Rather than fixing education, the Dems' solution is just to raise minimum wage.
