This can work on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S. It also works on iPod Touch 2nd Generation up to the 4th Generation. Recommended to have an iPod Touch 3rd Generation (32 & 64GB; 8GB is basically a 2nd Gen) with an external mic or better yet a headset to be able to call. Recommended to have iPhone 3GS or higher.
