the humour however is not racist and makes an interesting statement of african south africans having more dignity and self respect than they're made out to. but pulling seriously derogatory terms out REPETITIVELY on public television is messed up.

@soundslikedeathvox - SIr/madam - you are wrong - "Mulungu" does not mean "White scum that floats on top of the sea in rough weather" - it is more a descriptive word referring to people of european ancestry and a typically higher economic bracket. In fact some people even ascribe it a magical quality - as if these people had special magical powers. But I agree with you that this is a commentary on dignity. Having said that - there are chancers too.

A) Assuming that the woman is not from KZN, or is a Model C...I would refrain from taking her seriously in future if I were you. Gauteng Zulus and Model C Zulus know very little about Zulu the Language and the Culture.

By the way, you need not take my word for it, last I checked there are few White Zulu Professors in UKZN and UNIZULU....might help if you confirm my explanation with them.

Btw Mlungu is listen in dictionataries as being white scum of the sea. So if you call me mlhungu I will 1-ignore you flat or 2-refer to you in your mother tongue as above.

The Term "uMlungu" is a corruption of an earlier term "uMlumbi", which is archaic Zulu for a "Magician" (not "Wizard" = uMthakathi) . The term emanated from the Fact that Zulus considered White Medicine, Technology and Weaponry to be works of Magic.
