Here is the final part of the Fritz Lang silent classic. Once they get to the moon, Mannfeldt and Turner both make the discovery that Mannfeldt's theories are correct: there is gold on the moon! They struggle in a cave, and Mannfeldt falls to his death in a crevasse. Turner attempts to hijack the rocket, and in the ensuing struggle, he is shot and killed. Gunfire damages the oxygen tanks, and they come to the grim realization that there is not enough oxygen for all to make the return trip. One person must remain on the moon (which, in this film, has a breathable atmosphere.)
Helius and Windegger draw straws to see who must stay, and Windegger loses. But after the ship takes off for home, Helius discovers that Friede has decided to stay with him on the moon, and they embrace passionately.
Thus brings to a close this classic film made in the last days of the silents.

  • Is it possible that the part where Mannfeldt fells into a crevasse, where Turners tries to hijack the rocket and where Helius and Windegger draw straws to see who must stay are missing?

  • Uhhh...that would be correct. It's like a title card that fills in the missing gaps. :-)

  • That landing should have pulverized them lol

  • Tell me!! And the launch was equally quick! Pffft..and they were gone!

  • Be sure to bring a sweater for the sojourn!

  • Yup! Its only +107F during the day and a slightly chilly -153F at night!

  • Where is the Music ? I just saw a clip of the Lauching on the Arts Showcase on TV and it had music. I am otherwise grateful for this posting. Lots of foreshadowing of Hitler's Germany- in the hand gestures of the prof. speaking at the lectern and the looks of the astronaut in military tpye clothes. And I've just seen the 1st one- and now for the 2nd

  • 8:25 Forever alone!

9:19 Everything went better than expected!

  • @Clubbild "yeah baby" you can bet on it. lol ;o)

  • This movie is proof the Apollo landings were faked.

  • @CaptainNomura german flick...they would have exterminated them in death camps.

  • Yes, I knew! The germans were the first on the moon!

  • I can't imagine life before the moon landing. To look up at the moon, and not be exactly certain what it was, and have no references as to what it's like up there, when it seems so close. This movie seems silly to us now, but I too would probably sit there and imagine that it would be perfectly safe to walk around up there in normal clothing and look for gold and liquid water.

  • now what is the point of that. the moon doesnt need cleaning.

  • ...this film explain why women wasn`t selected on Apollo project.....

  • A thing that jumps to my eyes is the height of the rocket, I mean when you think of the little thing that they used for the real lunar flight and this thing is huge like a skyscraper.

And the Space suits remind me of Bioshock ;)
