who the hell can sing my girl like david, in those concerts in the early 80!s richard song my girl and he gave david his props before he song the song , he is a hell of a showman and performer, david songs are his songs just as dennis and ollie have their songs,hell theo peoples sang lead on stay 30 years after david left the group and it sold two million copies, the group has staying power, dont do the other tempts and yourself a diservice, saying only david can sing,

Listen to Firefly by the Temptations and tell me Richard can't sing. Listen to Richard's part on Papa Was A Rolling Stone and tell me he can't sing.

This argument is silly, they all could sing, but the greatest vocalist to ever sing with the group was Ali! he was Ruffin, Edwards, and Kendricks combined into one voice!

@chakazula1 Richard could sing certain songs, but he doesn't give a good interpertation of "My Girl". His voice just does not have that signature "raspy" gospel-tinged texture to it. Even Berry Gordy was against Richard having a lot of leads. he felt that Richard's voice lacked something. I concur..

Eddie Kendricks had a better solo career,and record sales matters more than youtube views. Papa Was A ROlling Stone and CLoud Nine won them grammy's they never won grammys with Ruffin

@chakazula1 Okay, chakazula, I'll say it, loud and proud: ONLY DAVID CAN SING! Ya happy? Seriously, dennis and ollie were ok. So was everybody else, with the possible exception of Otis. Just that David was on another plateau, along with singers like Levi, Cuba Gooding, Philippe Wynne, Eddie Levert and Walter Wiliams of the Ojays, Jimmy Beaumont of the Skyliners (check out "I'd Die" or "Since I Don't Have you" or "This I Swear . . . " It's another genre, but throw in Mel Carter, too.

On the contrary, tuzwol, the number of viewers means everything. We're talking legacy, not record sales in an age when consumerism was going through the roof (which is not to suggest, gaga, that's it's slowing down) or Grammy Winners. Isn't Michael Boltin a two-time Grammy winner? So much for that. Check out "Statue of a Fool," which is not to suggest that you're a fool tuzwol, just a man with an agenda. There u will see a declining Ruff, but still the ultimate front man, hands down.

@tonywsmith2 ,so what about the views,Just My Imagination sold more records. That number matters more than views on youtube. I'm talking about singing,not who was nice. Eddie was argubaly the greatest Temptation,and he had a better solo career than David, Eddie stood on his own and went platinum as a solo artist,something Ruffin never did. Ruffin lovers are annoying,they start arguments with people anytime someone other Ruffin gets praise. Eddie was the number 1 guy also,it wasnt just Ruff

You say David and Eddie were a great combination. Okay,having a number no. 2 guy like Eddie was great for the Temps when they were at their peak, and fronted by Ruffin. Sure, Ruff came across like a disgusting ego-maniac, while Eddie appeared to be a nice guy. But that shouldn't be the subject of discussion here. Mystique is what we should be talking about. Check out the skinny guy in the horn rim glasses.

@tonywsmith2 ,You have an agenda,was David a member of your family? You seem like another Ruffinite,who has something to say when a fan of the group praises someone other than David. He wasnt the only person in the group that was talented,it was 5 great singers harmonizing and performing their tails off. Papa Was A Rolling Stone and CLoud Nine are beloved. Cloud Nine winning the first grammy and Papa winning another grammy and selling over 2 million,My Girl isnt the Tempts only great song
